Aalto II is an 11-storey mixed-use residential rental building with over 140 one—and two-bedroom units and a three-storey underground parking garage shared with the Zibi “O” condominium building next door (also designed by Figurr).

The building sits on the south shore of the old Domtar lands in Gatineau along the Ottawa River, with clear views of the Ottawa skyline. The ground floor comprises three commercial retail spaces and a grand residential entrance lobby. Residents can access a fitness centre, storage lockers, an outdoor lounge and BBQ area, and a party room. The south terrace includes a large community garden to support the development’s goals for sustainable living.

Aalto II is part of Canada’s first and only One Planet Community. This world-class framework, developed by Bioregional and the World Wildlife Fund, includes eliminating GHG-emitting energy sources and encouraging social equity.

In keeping with the client’s objectives to promote sustainable design, the project has been designed with the latest technology and sustainable design features, including rainwater harvesting, a high-performing building envelop, highly efficient mechanical and electrical systems, high-reflecting roof membrane, and the rental units will also feature sustainably sourced and natural materials.
