This project will expand the midwifery services available in the territory of Eeyou Istchee and allow the community to maintain the traditions of the Cree culture and prenatal care. The project mandate includes 640m2 of space in Chisasibi and 550m2 of space in Waskaganish and Mistissini. The centres will include consultation areas, administrative offices, birthing rooms, and family rest areas. In addition to providing access to modern health care technology, the design will focus on providing a calming and home-like atmosphere for mothers and families.
Re-establishing the tradition of midwifery in the territory of Eeyou will allow the mothers to stay close to their families and home. Figurr looks forward to working with the Cree Nation and the CBHSSJB on the design and construction of their new birthing homes.
