Whapmagoostui, which means "place of the beluga", is the northernmost Cree community in Quebec. It is located at the mouth of the Great Whale River on the coast of Hudson Bay in Nunavik. The community is only accessible by air and, in the summer, by boat as well.

The new center will include an indoor pool with four 25 x 10-metre lanes, locker rooms and showers, a youth center, a multi-purpose space, and administrative offices.

As with most of the projects in the north, this project will need to address the unique challenges of building in remote, northern areas. The design will have to take into consideration several elements, including the choice of materials, the location and protection of glass panes, and the visibility of interior spaces.
