Looking ahead, the future of architecture, and specifically our practice in aviation, green development, educational spaces, and community building, is being redefined by emerging technologies, sustainability efforts, and evolving construction methods. As the industry evolves, we remain committed to driving change, pushing boundaries, and designing with purpose—all while upholding the values that have guided us from the outset.
Fig. 31 The Role of the Architect
Architecture is at a tipping point—technology is evolving faster than ever before, priorities are shifting, and the role of the architect is being redefined in real-time. While AI and automation can enhance efficiency, architecture remains, at its core, about people, whether it is us, as architects, remaining in control of creativity and craft or the people who become the end-users of the buildings we design.
As architects, our responsibility is to navigate this transformation while staying true to what makes our work meaningful—creating engaging spaces that respond to human needs, cultural identities, business goals, and environmental realities.
“It's about making sure everything we do as architects, and what we design every day through collaboration, through our relationships, through our technology, through our learning, - ultimately results in projects that transform peoples’ lives, community lives, business lives – that's ultimately our goal.”
– Roberto Campos, Partner, Architect

The future of architecture isn’t about choosing between technology and human expertise—it’s about finding a balance. As construction and design techniques evolve and sustainability becomes a standard requirement, one thing remains constant: the architect’s role in creating environments that connect, inspire, and enrich daily life.
Fig. 32 Community Building
Figurr has built strong relationships with communities across Quebec and nationwide for over two decades. As our team listens and learns about local needs, we can create deep connections through our shared values.
Participatory design is fundamental to our practice. It ensures that communities, clients, and users are genuinely involved in every stage of the project, fostering a true sense of ownership in community development. This involvement makes each project we create in collaboration with our clients distinctive.

Fig. 33 Technology
Sustainable design, livable cities, and technological advancements are transforming the way we approach design. Passive housing, net-zero buildings, One-Planet Living, and other energy-efficient focus design guidelines are improving efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and ensuring long-term resilience in urban and remote environments alike.
Better virtual connectivity, 3D printing, and digital tools are breaking down barriers and enabling more effective collaboration between communities, designers, and builders. The use of VR technology, collaborative digital work sessions, and 3D printing allows our team at Figurr to explore and refine spaces and details before they’re built, ensuring functional and intuitive designs.

Prefabrication has become a key component of our work, enabling higher precision, reduced waste, and faster construction, as seen in projects such as the ABIC/Caivan head office and manufacturing plant. This facility enabled our client – a large home developer- to manufacture prefabricated housing systems with greater efficiency and quality control, utilizing robotics and AI. There is no doubt that this approach to design and construction will one day become the norm in most building projects.
As the industry evolves, so does our approach. Whether designing homes, community spaces, or large-scale projects, we’re committed to using technology to build smarter, greener, and better.
Fig. 34 Aviation Training Centres / Advanced Air Mobility
The aviation industry is evolving with Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), transforming drones, electric aircraft, and next-generation delivery systems. These advancements are reshaping airspace, transportation, and training, driving more efficient, sustainable solutions. At Figurr, we’ve designed aviation training centres that support innovation, from commercial and corporate flight training to defence and security simulation facilities.
To help guide the future of aviation infrastructure, we've developed the Aviation Training Centre Design Guide, outlining key considerations for planning and designing next-generation training facilities. Learn more.

"Through our commitment to excellence and the use of our innovative tools and approaches, Figurr remains at the forefront of helping our aviation clients in shaping the future of aviation infrastructure and flight training worldwide." – Keith Johnson, Architect, Associate | AAM Specialist
Fig. 35 The Future of Figurr
As we look to the future and its uncertainties, one thing is sure—the core values of our Architects’ Collective will not change.
The future of Figurr is in our people. Leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about fostering a collaborative and engaged environment where diverse perspectives and ideas thrive, promoting thought leadership. We will continue cultivating a workplace that encourages growth, mentorship, and innovation.

While tools, technologies, and industry trends continue to evolve, our mission remains the same: to design buildings, communities and spaces that improve lives. Innovation isn’t just about embracing new advancements; it’s about ensuring that every decision enhances the way people experience the built environment.
“To our team, clients, and collaborators—thank you for shaping the past 35 years. We can’t wait to build the future together. The best is yet to come.” – Stephen Rotman, Partner, Architect
Our 35th anniversary was more than a reflection on where we’ve been doing the last 35 years —it was a reminder of who we are and the values, explorations, and goals that will guide us into the future.
